  Dial Up Internet Connectivity

As a major cost savings and to improve user service, the University has eliminated the unstable and expensive 800-number modem pool/dial up system.

The system was replaced with individual dialup ISP accounts through Sprint. Users access this network via Sprint’s national network of local access telephone numbers.

You will find several advantages to this system:

  • Sprint provides technical support for connection problems 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

  • The former system had a limit of 33 simultaneous users – with the new system there are no limits on simultaneous users.

  • You will experience fewer dropped connections.

The account will use your standard home analog telephone line to connect you to the Internet. From the Internet you may access a number of NLU administrative and academic functions and programs.

Maximum speed is 56 kbps (same as the old system). Actual speed will depend on your computer, your modem, and the telephone line from your point of origin to the Sprint network.

To gain access to Dialup Services, you will need to complete a NLU-Sprint Dial Up Request Form. You can download this form from the documentation section. The dialer application is available from the applications section.
