Introduction

Information technology affects all of us on a daily basis. And, just when we think we understand the technology that we use in our offices or classrooms, it changes. Sometimes we want technology to change - and it doesn't. Sometimes we wish we knew more about some new technology - and when it might be available for general use or why it never will be part of the NLU technology environment. Information Technology will publish InfoBits to try to inform you about new technologies, changes in technology, and the technology environment at NLU.

Keeping up with technology developments is an important responsibility of the Information Technology staff. Keeping up with technology is also important for faculty and non-I.T. staff. Technology offers many new ways to do things - some of them are useful, while others may actually be an impediment to getting our jobs done. An effective way to sort out the useful from the useless is to have discussions between Information Technology staff and faculty and non-I.T. staff. When we bring together both the technical and "user" perspectives, we gain the power of both views. We welcome your calls and are always willing to participate in department or committee meetings to help sort out the technology maze.

We hope that all of you will read these newsletters. We look forward to your comments, questions and suggestions. You might even want to be a guest contributor.

Please send any correspondence to Helpdesk@nl.edu, with "InfoBits" as the subject line.
