Can I purchase a computer at a discount through NLU?

Yes. OIT will continually research educational purchasing programs and list the links below:
  • Apple - Please click the "Higher Education Faculty, Staff, and Students" link under the "Shop for Yourself" area.

  • Dell - This web site will give you access to the Dell Purchase Plan.

  • Campus Technology, Inc. Software - Discounted software for students, faculty and staff.

What model PC or MAC should I buy? (PDF Format)

How do I create or modify a NLU Listserv?

The NLU Help Desk accepts all requests for listservs. An online form is being created and will be available in the future.

How do I create a webpage for my class or department?

Contact Web Services by sending an email to WebDev@nl.edu.

Can I take software home?

Yes. NLU has purchased a Microsoft Campus Agreement, which allows faculty and staff to check out software from the NLU Help Desk and install it on your home computer free of charge. Software available through this agreement includes: Microsoft Office 97, Office 2000, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 2000, Visual Studio, FrontPage 98 and FrontPage 2000.

Can anyone read my e-mail?

Technically, yes, it is possible for the network administrator to examine e-mail messages and it is also possible for mail sent outside of the NLU network to be captured by malicious hackers and viewed. This is true of all e-mail. Therefore, it is appropriate to use discretion in e-mail messages. At a practical level, however, no one has the time to check messages.

I can't open my e-mail. What do I do?

Make sure you completely restart your system and note any errors at the logon. If you are still unsuccessful, contact the NLU Help Desk at x4357 (HELP).
