  Academic Computing

The Academic Computing team develops and supports ongoing University-wide academic technology initiatives, including online teaching and learning, Web space allocation to faculty, and Web design for various departments (both Academic and Administrative). The staff act as consultants to faculty about any aspect of technology use in the learning environments - classroom or distance.

Academic Computing offers expanded services in the following areas:

    Online Teaching and Learning

Academic Computing facilitates and supports online course development and distance learning efforts at the University. The WebCT courseware product is the University standard since fall of 2000. OIT provides free training and instructional design services to faculty who are interested in using WebCT with their teaching. To learn more, please visit http://ecampus.nl.edu.

    Web Space for Faculty

Academic Computing allocates Web space to full-time faculty members, per their request. Faculty may request Web space by completing the Web Space Request Form, which is available from OIT. Faculty may also request space for their students to publish a Web site for class, by appending their course roster to the Request Form. The students will have access to the server space for the length of the term, plus two additional weeks.

    Web Design Services

Other available services include Web design and consultation in collaboration with academic departments, and in keeping with ongoing technology initiatives. OIT offers one-to-one consultation with NLU faculty and staff looking to enhance their curricular and department visibility. OIT’s Web Services Team offers a great deal of expertise and dedication to cutting-edge solutions in creative Web design and Web development.
