The virus is called W32/IRCbot.worm and it exploits a vulnerability in Windows systems. We have implemented temporary changes that help protect NLU computers and servers from being affected, and to this point no infections have appeared. Microsoft has released a special patch to eliminate the vulnerability and we will need to implement this patch tonight to permanently protect against attacks for this vulnerability. 10pm to 1am -- After classes complete at approximately 10pm central this evening we will begin installing this patch and it is expected to take approximately 2 – 3 hours to complete the installation on all servers. During this period of time we will need to reboot all of the servers which will result in intermittent connectivity to all services, with the exception of WebCT between 10pm and 1am.
