Upgrade to H: and I: drives scheduled for June 28, 9:00 PM through June 29, 10:00 PM
All Users - Reminder
If you utilize the NLU network storage drives, commonly referred to as H: (personal folders) or I: (departmental shared folders), or J: please read on....
The drive system containing these files, NLUStorage, will be down for operating system software upgrade purposes beginning Friday, June 28th at 9:00 PM until 10:00 PM on Saturday, June 29th.
Files on the H:, I:, and J: drives will be unavailable. All other services should be operating normally (all web services, email, Banner, internet access, etc. should operate normally).
The Office of Information Technology is beginning the second phase of a lengthy upgrade process of our Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Domain to Windows 2000. Microsoft will soon end their support of Windows NT 4.0. Windows 2000 will enhance and stabilize many of our network services once the upgrade process is complete. The second phase of this major upgrade project is to upgrade the version of Microsoft Windows on NLUStorage.
** NLUStorage holds the files located in your H and I drives. While the operating system on this server will be replaced, No data will be in danger during this process.
We will be disabling access to NLUStorage at 9:00 PM to ensure that a complete backup of the system is successful. The amount of data stored on this server requires a 8 to 9 hour backup process.
Saturday morning (June 29th) we will begin the actual operating system upgrade and expect it to last 8 to 9 hours. We will again test the restore and backup procedures to ensure the upgrade was successful, as well as verify that folder permissions and user access to the H and I drives was successfully restored.
The third phase in the Windows Domain upgrade process is being planned but is not yet scheduled.
If you have any questions about the upcoming upgrade, please contact Travis Sjodin at tsjodin@nl.edu or extension 5986.
