   Important Information Regarding the Upcoming Banner Upgrade

OIT will be upgrading the NLU administrative system (Banner) from Thursday evening, April 27 at 10 PM, through Sunday, April 30. This means that Banner (and some related systems listed below) will be unavailable on these days.

Why are we upgrading?
Upgrading to the latest version of Banner (Banner 7) will accomplish several important goals:
  • preparation for the elimination of SSNs as the primary identifier later this year
  • provide "single sign-on" access to Banner 7 via a "channel" in our portal (http://my.nl.edu)
  • preparation for an important, upcoming WebCT upgrade
  • "behind-the-scenes" technical improvements that make integrating (connecting) Banner with other systems easier
  • After 12/31/06, our vendor will stop supporting Banner version 6 (the version of Banner we're currently running)
What you need to know:
  • Although there is no "good time" for a major upgrade such as this, the April 27/28/29/30 dates have been carefully picked to minimize disruption to the university community. All operational elements (including faculty grade submission, building renovations, financial aid processing, HR's open enrollment, registration, and end-of-the-year financial processing) were considered when selecting these dates.
  • The systems that will be unavailable include Banner, Banner self-service (class lists, grade submission, personalized HR information, etc.), the online directory, Banner/Luminis integration, and WebCT course creation (existing WebCT courses will be available throughout).
  • All systems, including the new (upgraded) version of Banner, will be available as of the opening of business on Monday, May 1.
  • Starting May 1, access to Banner will be via a "channel" in our portal, http://my.nl.edu (more specific instructions will follow).
What you need to do:
  • All offices need to plan for business operations without access to Banner on Friday, April 28.
  • If you have been asked to test Banner 7, please do so. This testing is underway and is being coordinated between OIT and the Banner Leadership team.
