  ATTENTION ALL BANNER USERS

On February 9, 2004 Banner was upgraded from version 5X to 6X. Banner is the administrative software system used by the entire University for all of its key operations. The software vendor, SCT, provides periodic upgrades to improve functionality, meet changing federal reporting and processing requirements, and utilize the latest technology. SCT requires clients to migrate to new versions within a limited time period in order to obtain support from SCT. This version upgrade is prompted by these general issues, as well as the specific ones for NLU.

The following features are in Banner 6X:

  • A totally internet-based system. You will no longer need to access Banner via Citrix. All you need is an internet connection and a browser.

  • Enhanced processing options which will provide speed and efficiency in various departments such as Financial Aid.

  • Provides new systems for processing federal aid as required by changing technology within the Department of Education (Banner vs. 5 does not support this new Dept of Ed protocol).

  • Adds an “Open Learning Registration” – finally breaks away from the traditional term-based scheduling and fee assessment system that has created many challenges for an institution like ours that operates cohort groups on a non-traditional schedule.

  • Allows enhanced audit tracking of various processes. New real-time Registration Fee Assessment.

  • Expanded Credit Hours/GPA options.

  • Bookshelf of Banner Documentation on-line within Banner.

  • Self-Service Customization to include name, term, time, and date information to display.

  • A new channel to self-service using SCT Luminis (Campus Pipeline).
